6 Questions to ask a band before you hire them
1. How long will you play for?
Typically, bands will play 2 sets of either 45 minutes or 1 hour depending on your
requirements. It is very common for a band to take a break between sets and you can ask if they will also offer to play music from a playlist during this time.
Streetlight Soul offers extremely flexible packages and if you’d prefer to have 3 x 30 minutes sets that’s fine too- it’s your event and we want to make sure it runs exactly to plan.
It’s important to remember that if your band is setting up early and performing throughout the night, that they may need to be supplied with food and drink.
2. How much do you charge?
Be prepared to share your intended budget with the band as this will help to get the best package possible for your money. Most bands will offer tailored packages and this will be dependent on your requirements for example; how long you would like them to play for, whether or not you require music in between sets and so on. Streetlight Soul can offer to play music before, in between and after the live sets – just ask”
3. Can you play special requests?
Whilst most bands will play from a specified set list, it is also possible to make special requests. Whether or not it’s a special first dance or a favourite song, make sure you ask at the time of enquiring to ensure the band have enough time to perfect your chosen music. Want to hear what your first dance my sound like before the night? No problem. Streetlight Soul can take a snippet recording from a rehearsal so you know what to expect on the big night.
4. Do you have public liability insurance and is your equipment PAT tested?
It’s important to find out if a band has public liability insurance and PAT tested equipment as more often than not, venues require proof of this before allowing them to play. All of Streetlight Soul’s equipment is PAT tested and we have public liability insurance to the value of £10 million.
5. What is your cancellation policy?
It’s important to find out what the band’s cancellation policy is for your own peace of mind. Streetlight Soul will draw up a contract upon booking to guarantee that we will never cancel an event. From your side, find out what the circumstances are if you need to cancel. More often than not deposits paid will be non-refundable so make sure you are 100% certain when booking.
6. When do you require full payment?
Most bands will request a deposit of between 10-25% and you should be prepared to pay this upon booking. The majority of bands will also need payment before the event as they have to make prior arrangement to pay other band members so bear this in mind. If you are booking on behalf of an organisation don’t forget to ask your band to send you an invoice.
Now you’ve read all of the above it’s time to make an enquiry.
